Greater Manchester Police has launched a murder investigation following the death of a man in Longsight.

Police were called to a property on Plymouth Grove at around 4.30am on Sunday (5 February), following a report concerning a man’s welfare. Despite the best efforts of emergency services, the 50-year old man was pronounced dead at the scene.

A man in his 20s has been arrested on suspicion of murder. He is being held in custody pending questioning from the Major Incident Team (MIT) detectives.

MIT Detective Inspector Louise Edwards, said: “A murder investigation has been launched this morning and we are currently trying to establish the circumstances that very tragically led to this man’s death.

“This is being treated as an isolated incident with no wider threat to the public and we currently have one man in custody for questioning”.

GMP is urging anyone with information related to the incident to contact them as soon as possible.
