A 17-year-old teenage boy was found dead in a Salford Park on Sunday morning.
Police investigations revealed that Alan Szelugowski was stabbed to death in Clowes Park in the Broughton area of the city around 7.30am.
The teenager was pronounced dead at the scene by the time emergency services arrived.
A 17-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of murder and has been bailed pending further investigations.
Police detective Chief Inspector Gareth Davies, of GMP’s major incident team, said: “Our thoughts go out to Alan’s family at this incredibly difficult time.
“We ask that they are given privacy at this time to allow them to grieve and come to terms with this devastating incident.
“GMP is continuing its investigation at pace into the circumstances surrounding Alan’s death.
“I would urge anyone who may have information or footage that could assist us and our investigation to get in touch with the police as soon as you can.
A large scene remains in place and the public are advice to avoid the area.
