The countdown to the St Patrick’s Day parade in Manchester is on
With St Patrick’s Day on 17 March quickly approaching, the countdown begins for Irish bars and pubs all across Manchester. If you’re looking for the best ways to celebrate the occasion in Manchester, here are some brilliant options during the lead up and the day itself.
This year Manchester is set to hold their 36th annual St Patrick’s Day parade on 15 March, beginning in Cheetham Hill and running all the way across through Deansgate. The parade is known to be one of the longest and largest running St Patrick’s Day parades in Europe.
If you’re looking to commence the celebrations sooner, many traditional Irish bars and pubs in and around Manchester have plans to host all kinds of events in the run up to the day itself. O’Shea’s, located on Princess Street, commence their Irish festival on Friday 13 March, offering rugby and live music all week, and will be running the festival village on St Anne’s Square from Thursday (12 March).
On Sunday (15 March), O’Shea’s will also be taking part in the Irish parade, with manager Paul Mackey explaining: “Seeing the parade is a must. The atmosphere is so good. Everyone goes into the festival village too and is definitely worth the visit.
“O’Shea’s has been hosting St Patrick’s Day celebrations here for over 30 years.”

For students possibly wanting to stay closer to home, Kennedy’s in Didsbury will also be packed full of Irish celebrations. For Kennedy’s, “The countdown is well and truly on for hands down the best day of the year” from quizzes, live music to rugby.
Declan McGeehan at Kennedy’s is encouraging students to come along:“It’s a day to be enjoyed. I know I went out and enjoyed it as a student so I would encourage them to do the same.”
If you’re wanting to visit a traditional Irish bar this St Patrick’s Day, the options in and around Manchester are endless with the city boasting a huge number of Irish pubs and bars. All of which will be brimming with atmosphere come the day.
So, if you like the sound of live music, high spirits, parades and more, don’t miss out!
