‘Nut Safe’ safe sex campaign to launch

  • Reporter Steven Hampson is launching a campaign to help educate and raise awareness for the practice of safe sex at university.
  • A quarter of students catch an STD in their first year of university.

There were 420,000 cases of sexually transmitted diseases (STD) diagnosed in 2017.

Universities are hugely important in educating young people. So why do they neglect such basic topics such as sexual education?

Nut Safe aims to educate and raise awareness for students who need to know about how to avoid STDs.

Thousands of students go to university without previous knowledge of sexual education.

Sex education is not compulsory and lots of students are arriving at university lacking basic knowledge. Many international students from conservative countries are not even given the option to learn it.
