Two violent criminals held a man down before tasering him and robbing him on a canal pathway in Strangeways, accoring to the GMP.
The 36-year-old victim had been walking on Julia Street towards the city centre last monday before being confronted by the first offender.
He then crossed over at the junction with Mary Street, walking along the canal path. It was at this point when he was approached by a man, who asked him where he was going, before pushing the victim and tasered him to the floor.
As the victim fell to the floor, the second offender stood by him and began kicking him. The first man held him down while continued to zap him with the taser.
They then proceeded to steal two bracelets from his wrist, pulling a chain from his neck, before demanded the victim hand over his jet black iPhone 7.
The victim did manage to break free, running to a nearby hotel for help. He was later admitted to hospital, luckily escaping with minor injuries.
The incident occurred about 7.20pm on Monday 20 February.
The first offender has been described by the GMP as white, in his early 20s, around 5ft 8ins, plump and was wearing a black Nike hoody with the hood up, black jeans, light coloured trainers and spoke with a Manchester accent.
The second robber was described by the GMP as white, in his late teens, about 5ft 3ins and slim. He was wearing a dark hooded tracksuit with the hood up.
Inspector Paul Coburn, from GMP’s City of Manchester division, said: “The victim was understandably terrified during this attack.
“He immediately felt a shooting pain but didn’t know why. It was only when he saw the taser device he knew he’d been attacked with it.
“Stun guns and tasers are illegal in the UK and can be extremely dangerous when they are in the wrong hands.
“Thankfully, in this particular case the victim was not seriously injured and has been helping us with this investigation.
“CCTV is currently being reviewed and we are following a number of lines of enquiry to find those responsible.
“I’m now asking the public for their help and to please contact us.”
