Traffic delays and carnival-atmosphere expected for Manchester United’s Europa Semi-Final second leg

  • With Manchester United hosting Celta Vigo and their fans tomorrow, the GMP are warning commuters to expect traffic delays
  • A "carnival-like atmosphere" between the two sets of fans is also expected

Manchester United have the opportunity to cement their place in the Europa League Final this Thursday, by beating their Spanish competitors, Celta Vigo.

With the return leg being held in Manchester tomorrow, the GMP have warned Mancunians to expect traffic delays.

Superintendent Graeme Openshaw, GMP's match commander for the United v Celta Vigo game said: “As Manchester welcomes fans on Thursday for the second leg of the Europa League semi-final, I’d like to remind people that there may be disruption to the city centre, especially during rush hour, so please plan your journey accordingly.

“The match at Old Trafford kicks off at 8.05pm and fans from both sides are expected to congregate in the city centre throughout the day."

The spokesman for the GMP also added that the public should expect a friendly atmosphere between the two sets of fans: “The first leg in Spain saw both sets of fans enjoying a carnival-like atmosphere and we expect fans will equally enjoy their time before, during and after the match.

“We will be working with partners to ensure everyone enjoys the occasion and stays safe as well as making the disruption as minimal as possible.”
