Manchester City kick off Champions League campaign with 4-0 victory over Sevilla

  • Erling Haaland carries on impressive scoring record with two goals

  • Phil Foden scores 47th professional goal for City

City started the game slowly compared to how they usually play with in the 15th minute only having 53% possession.

However, despite this, Haaland opened the score sheet in the 20th minute, which no one was surprised by.

The first half was run by Manchester City even though they weren’t able to extend their lead going into the half-time break ending 1-0.

In the second half City upped the pressure on the ball from their relaxed state in the first half. It took them 13 minutes to score another goal with Phil Foden getting into the 18-yard box and slotting it into the bottom right corner.

This marked his 47th goal for the club at a professional level.

It then only took them 10 minutes to score another and make it 3-0 to the travelling team. And who else but Haaland to score it?

The goal means he is the youngest player to score 25 goals in the Champions League, as well as the fastest player to make it to 25 goals in only 20 games.

Since his debut for City Haaland has scored 12 goals in eight games for the club, a staggering record that no one could have accounted for.

He was then substituted for Julian Alvarez who made his Champions League debut.

The game then went completely into City’s hands and there was no chance for Sevilla to make a break and then in the last minute of the game.

Ruben Dias managed to get his first Champions League goal for the blues ending the game 4-0.

City’s next game is on the 10th of September against Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League. Their next Champions League game is 14 September against Borussia Dortmund at the Etihad Stadium.
