Delight as FC dominate Witton in a match nearly called off because of atrocious weather conditions

  • FCUM 2-0 Witton Albion
  • Goals from Aaron Morris and Josh Galloway secured the win
  • FC are now just three points off the play-offs

FC have continued their march for a playoff place in the Pitching In Northern Premier Division with an impressive 2-0 win over Witton Albion.

A crowd of 1,740 watched on in the rain as goals from Aaron Morris and Josh Galloway secured all three points at Broadhurst Park.

It took both sides a while to get a feel for the game as the pitch was absolutely sodden. It was touch and go before kick off as the referees conducted a pitch inspection and it had an air of the postponed Whitby game about it.

It was going to be the sort of game where the surface would play a part, and this came to fruition just 11 minutes in as FC tested the away ‘keeper – and the ball squirmed away from him and almost into the back of the net.

The pressure would tell in the 37th minute, however, when Aaron Morris flashed the ball into the net after getting his head on a peach of a corner after a spell of set pieces went begging for the reds.

FC went into the break a goal to the good, and they would come out firing for the second period, looking for that killer second goal.

Strike

It would take them only four minutes to put Albion under pressure once more as Hall headed straight at the ‘keeper.

FC would got that second goal, and in good style. Josh Galloway showed just how dangerous he is with this strike, as he took hold of a loose ball on the edge of the 18 yard box, controlled it brilliantly and stroked it low into the bottom right corner.

After FCs second, the game became scrappy again with the surface churning more and more.

Some disappointing news came in the 81st minute, as the ever threatening Josh Galloway was forced off with an injury and replaced with Harry Wilson. It only looked to be a knock, and hopefully nothing too serious.

Tonight’s man of the match was Josh Galloway. H,e was always a threat when on the ball, looking forward all the time, and his well taken goal was richly deserved.

After the game, NQ spoke to manager Neil Reynolds.

He said: “Credit to the ground staff to get the game on, credit to the referee and the officials for letting the game play.

“I’m looking down on it now and it looks like it’s had a really heavy 90 minutes, but I’m sure we’ll do everything we can to get it right for Tuesday night.

“We have a mission now. We have a plan. We know what we have to do between now and the end of the season.

“I’m not always going to be everyone’s biggest fans because the lads in the dressing room want to play every week but for me it’s about picking the side that I think is going to win us the game.

“ The last 10/11 weeks it has worked but I’m going to have to keep doing it between now and the end of the season because we’ve got big games coming up now and the more we keep winning, the closer we get to the playoffs, the more people get a bit edgy but we’ve got to keep our feet firmly on the ground”.

Next up for FC is a battle under the lights as we welcome Lancaster City to Broadhurst Park on Tuesday night.
