Thousands have descended upon the streets of Manchester this morning to pay their respects following the death of boxing legend Ricky Hatton MBE.

Also nicknamed ‘The Hitman’ and ‘The Pride of Hyde’, the ex-world champion was found dead at his Gee Cross home on September 14 following a lifelong battle with depression. He was 46 years old.

Hatton had previously won titles at both light-welterweight and welterweight level, and was due to mark a comeback to the ring against middleweight Eisa Al Dah on 2 December in Dubai.

Tributes poured out from across the world following his death, including from Manchester City, of which Hatton was a lifelong fan. A wreath from the club was among hundreds of tributes laid outside his home – named ‘The Heartbreak’ – the next day, and a minute’s silence was held at the club’s next derby, which the boxer had been due to attend.

Today’s funeral procession sees a 15-mile journey past numerous landmarks of Hatton’s life, beginning at his local Gee Cross pub, The Cheshire Cheese, continuing on to a formal service at Manchester Cathedral, and eventually terminating at the Etihad Stadium.
