Prevent Breast Cancer raise 2K in pink party fundraiser

A breast cancer charity raised more than £2,000 by organising two days of fundraising to mark breast cancer awareness month.
Prevent Breast Cancer hosted a karaoke night at the Millstone pub followed by an all-day pink themed event at Feel Good bar in the city centre.
Events at the Feel Good Club included a yoga session, fashion show, live singers, pink merchandise and a pink-themed menu and drinks.
The organisation is the only UK charity funding research aimed solely at breast cancer prevention.
Organiser John Ardern said they were doing “loads of research and education to encourage women to become more breast aware”.
Around 55,000 women and 370 men are diagnosed with breast cancer every year in the UK.
John got involved with Prevent Breast Cancer after his 36-year-old daughter, Steph, lost her battle with breast cancer seven years ago.
He told NQ: “It’s now long enough for me to be able to talk about it.
“What I want is for any parent in the future not to have to go through what I went through and what my partner went through.
“I don’t want parents to suffer through ignorance of how you can prevent breast cancer.”
John said Steph was just beginning her life when she got the diagnosis. She had just got a new job when she was “struck down by this dreadful disease”.
Sarah May, fundraiser for Prevent Breast Cancer, told NQ the events were very well attended.
“The whole buzz of the day and the atmosphere has been incredible, it’s been like one big party,” she said.
“I’ve been fundraising for about 15 years. If people are having fun, they’re more likely to help raise money.”
Fundraising ended with a fashion show which the public were encouraged to join in with. Fundraisers handed out pink clothing items and gathered people onstage for a final celebration.
The key message of the day was to encourage women to check their breasts frequently.
John said: “If you find or suspect anything is wrong, don’t leave it. Go and find out what it is and do something about”.
Sarah added: “Prevention is far better than cure. If you can stop it in its tracks, you are far more likely to get a really good outcome”.
Prevent Breast Cancer is hosting a Hollywood gala event on 19 November at Fir Grove Hotel, Grappenhall.
