Nicky Butt stands down from role with Salford City as club looks forward

United legend Nicky Butt is stepping down from his role as chief executive officer at Salford City.

Nicky Butt along with his fellow class of 92 purchased shares in the club back in 2014. He will keep hold of his 10% share as he still wants to help the club move forward.

He stated on the club’s website: “I have always wanted to put Salford first.”

Gary Neville previously held the role as CEO before he stepped down similarly due to not being able to fully commit the time required for the job. Butt replaced him and has done the job for the last two years.

The club has been in league two for the last five seasons following promotion back in 2019. The club will now will look to take it’s next step.

Jonathon Jackson the clubs current finance director will step in as interim CEO but the club have yet to appoint the role to anyone permanently.

The club currently sit 16th with just 3 wins from the first 10 games. Karl Robinson remains the head coach at the club although he is rumoured to be wanted by Crawley Town, whose manager Scott Lindsey has quit. talkSPORT suggest: “Salford boss Robinson has emerged as a potential candidate for the vacancy at Broadfield Stadium.”

Butt is still a part owner and will still have the decision making that comes with that.
