Manchester to host 2019 World Taekwondo Championships
The World Taekwondo Federation (WTF) announced the news ahead of the World Junior Championships, which starts tomorrow.
It has been announced that the Manchester Arena will host the World Taekwondo Championships in 2019.
As part of the three-year event package, Manchester will also host a leg of the World Taekwondo Grand Prix Series in 2018. London is also set to host a leg in 2017.
The WTF Council made the decision to award Manchester the World Championships as it had determined the city to have made the most attractive bid. Manchester managed to fend off competition from Houston, USA to win the staging rights of the 2019 World Championships.
The events are hoping to build the profile of the sport in the UK, especially following the success of British Taekwondo team at the Rio Olympic Games.
