Man Met win two golds and set numerous personal best at BUCS nationals
- Shot putter Nicholl wins her 8th medal at BUCS with gold this year
- Men's 200m relay team narrowly miss out on the final
- Long jumper Jones wins bronze with personal best
Every single Man Met athlete recorded personal bests at the BUCS Indoor Championships in Sheffield between 14th and 16th February.
The rising star of shot-putting Adele Nicholl clinched gold in Sheffield with a personal best to increase her medals tally to eight at the student games.
Adele has never dropped below the gold standard in each of her competitions, and she threw a competition record of 15.75 metres before jumping on a train back to Cardiff to continue her studies.
Long jumper Steven Jones added a second medal for MMU – this time a bronze – with a leap of 2.05 meters, again a personal best. His incredible performance has seen him elevate to the status of an MMU sports scholar.
Triple jumper and track star Kevin Metzger made the finals of the 400m with a time of 48.3 seconds but injury stopped him from running.
But there was disappointment for the Men’s 4 x 200m relay team who missed a place in the finals by less than half a second, edged out by London Brunel. The winning margin was 0.4 seconds faster.
The MMU relay team of Chris Perry, Adam Mohammed, Kevin Metzger and Sanchez Nguie performed to a high standard, with rising star Sanchez finishing his distance in a stunning 20.9 seconds.
Jérôme Read, sports performance staff member said, ” We performed to expectations with some stand out performance particularly in the female shot put but perhaps even more pleasing was the men’s high jump where we got a bronze and that really shows the development that can be done by engaging with the multi-disciplinary team we have at Manchester Met.”
