Get involved

The Northern Quota is a Manchester-based news and media network managed by students and staff from Manchester Met’s Multimedia Journalism course. We specialise in quality multimedia storytelling and help students build public-facing portfolios that serve as a springboard into the industry.

Newsdays

All Manchester Met Multimedia Journalism students are invited to contribute to The Northern Quota and attend regular campus Newsdays to help you build your skills, confidence, network and portfolio.

NQ Newsdays are the perfect opportunity to connect with other students, build your skills, and try new things in a supportive environment. Taking place every other Wednesday afternoon in GE 3:10, you will also have the opportunity to engage remotely online on alternating weeks.

In each Newsday session, we will welcome new team members, discuss ideas for stories and multimedia content to be published on The Northern Quota website, and show you how everything works at NQ. You will learn how to bring your work to industry standards and have opportunities to pitch your work for online publication.

TV & Radio Opportunities

Newsday sessions will be based in our Multimedia Newsroom and TV and Radio studios in Grosvenor East. Here you will have opportunities to get involved with TV and Radio projects – and try out scriptwriting, presenting, editing and more.

NQ Tutors will be on hand to introduce the latest technology and provide training to help you build a wide range of skills necessary to work in today’s multi-platform digital environments.
