Former Manchester City captain Kompany takes charge at Burnley
- Vincent Kompany was pivitol in the succes of Manchester city over the past years leading them to become premier league champions
- Kompany departed City for Anderlecht in 2019 as player-manager and retired from professional football in 2020
- Kompany takes over from Mike Jackson who was Sean Dyche's successor
Recently relegated Burnley have appointed ex-city and Anderlecht player Vincent Kompany as their new manager
In August 2020 Kompany, who was a player-manager at Anderlecht at the time, retired from professional football and was set to be the head coach at the team for the next four seasons
However yesterday it was announced by Burnley football club that they have appointed Kompany as their next manager.

The ex-Manchester City captain is taking over during a vital time in the club’s history. With many first team regulars departing from the club this coming summer including captain Ben Mee, James Tarkowski and Erik Pieters so it will take a proven leader to keep the comradery of the team and lead them through this difficult period
Kompany turned down offers from other teams to accept his new role, with Bundesliga side Borussia Monchengladbach being the main team linked to him, but Burnley came out triumphant in the battle for the former Belgium international
Kompany’s appointment will thrill fans and staff at the club. The ex-City defender delivered European football for Anderlecht last season and guided them to a domestic cup final
The Belgium international takes over from caretaker boss Mike Jackson, who took responsibility for team affairs when Sean Dyche was sacked in April, but was not successful in keeping Burnley in the premier league after it came down to the wire on the final day of the season
During his time at Manchester city Kompany was influential in leading his team to premier league success and hopes to bring similar success with Burnley where he can see an “incredible future”.
He said: “I looked at what Burnley wanted to achieve and I’m not saying it’s easy, but I saw a path which was different than that at other places
“I see a plan and I see good people. I want to work with people that are already at Burnley. I’m allowed to bring good people with me as well and together we don’t have to change everything
“You pick the core of the things you really appreciate about the club so far – the culture, how honest people can be, how warm and friendly people are – and then you add the detail that you think will take these things to the next level
“To make a long answer short, I’ve chosen this project because I know that after a difficult start will come an incredible future.”
Burnley Chairman Alan Pace is just as excited for the future and believes they have appointed “a proven leader”.
