CCTV images of armed robbery at local supermarket released
by Rami Mwamba
Police have released CCTV footage of an armed robbery that took place at a supermarket.
A man wearing a balaclava stormed into Asda on Priestners Way in Leigh, at 6.17am on 8 January with a pump-action shotgun.
He is thought to have pointed the weapon at a Loomis security van driver and snatched a cash box off him.
Detective Inspector Martin Reddington from Greater Manchester Police said: “This was a particularly daring robbery, considering the man was apparently working alone.
“Fortunately no-one was injured, but the security guard was obviously left extremely shaken.
“I am hoping that someone may recognise the [suspect’s] clothing and come forward with some information.”
The CCTV footage shows a heavily built man wearing a dark tracksuit and a high visibility vest.
He is believed to have fled the scene in a light blue ford focus along Atherleigh Way towards Atherton.
Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101 quoting incident number 080116/257 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
