New safe ‘Facebook’ site created for children under 13

A former police sergeant has set up a social media network for children to help keep them safe on the internet and chat online with their friends.
Henry Platten created Go Bubble as an alternative site to Facebook where you have to be aged 13 and above to set up an account

Henry, who runs eCadets, an online programme aimed at keeping kids safe on the net, says  the age limit in place can be easily bypassed by children under 13,

Go Bubble puts an end to unwanted friend requests, dubious content and the potential for cyber-bullying, he says. 
“We need to accept that our kids love social media and will use it no matter what the age limit is, so my view is, don’t ban them, just provide them with a safe alternative that has all of the up sides but none of the down sides. Go Bubble is that alternative” said Henry.

Go Bubble puts the child’s school at the centre of the social networking site. The school signs pupils up with parental approval and children can safely talk to each other anywhere in the world.
 Posts are automatically moderated to filter out inappropriate content, such as images, text or emojis  and are removed before they being seen by children.

GMP Chief Constable Ian Hopkins said: “Young people use social media to talk to each other and it’s really important they’re able to do so in a safe environment. As a social network, Go Bubble is just that, a bubble where children are given all the fun of social media in complete safety. We look forward to using it to support our education work with under 13s.”
