Northern Quota co-editor shortlisted for national Student Publication Association award
- Editor and reporter Tom Green is up for an award at the prestigious Student Publication Association awards event in Cardiff
- His feature on buskers the Piccadilly Rats has been shortlisted in the 'Best Entertainment Piece' category
Northern Quota co-editor and reporter Tom Green has had an article shortlisted for a nationally recognised award courtesy of the Student Publication Association.
The article, which documents the rise of Mancunian buskers the Piccadilly Rats from street corners to Parklife festival, has been shortlisted in the Best Entertainment Piece category alongside nine other articles from a range of other student publications.
The Student Publication Association (SPA) is the largest student media association, representing student publications and journalists across the UK and the Republic of Ireland.
SPA’s aims include supporting, training and showcasing student journalists and their work, both on a national and regional level; holding a national conference and a prestigious awards ceremony annually.
The shortlists for all 19 categories, which also include best news story, best feature and best publication, were announced individually on 21st March.
The Northern Quota piece was chosen by Katie Hind, showbiz editor at the Mail on Sunday, and the overall winner will be decided by Express arts editor Stefan Kyriazis.
This year is the first time the NQ has ever entered the awards, and so to have an article shortlisted is a fantastic achievement.
It comes shortly after the complete editorial team of Georgia Landi, Sian Hamer, Kieran Hepworth and Tom also won the Outstanding Contribution to Media and Communications Award at the MMU Faculty Showcase earlier this month.
The NQ will be represented at the 2018 SPA Conference and awards ceremony in Cardiff, which takes places across 6-8 April, by Tom, Georgia and Kieran.
