Reds fans sleep in famous stand to raise money for homeless
Liverpool Football Club’s Foundation’s second ‘Kip on the Kop’ event took place on Saturday, with Reds uniting to help tackle homelessness across the Liverpool city region.
It was a memorable evening for all who took part in the unique opportunity to spend a night on the Kop, to experience a night of solidarity and empathy, gaining just a small insight into the challenges faced by individuals experiencing homelessness every night.
As the sun set over Anfield and the temperature dropped, LFC Foundation CEO Matt Parish addressed the crowd to highlight the issue of homelessness across the Liverpool City Region and the north west as a whole, before John Finnigan, CEO of Liverpool Homeless FC, gave an insight into the challenges faced by those his organisation support.
Also in attendance was Red’s fan and comedian John Bishop, an ambassador for Liverpool Homeless FC, who spoke passionately about the work of both organisations and the need for change.
Caitlin Stephenson who took part in the sleepout said: “it’s a real honour to do this for such a good cause. My family have supported Liverpool for years and my grandad used to stand in The Kop when he went to the games when he was younger, there’s a real community feel to the event.”
