MMU library security officer Anne books out after 44 years
IT is fair to say that MMU security officer Anne Ashcroft has seen more students in her working life than most tutors ever do.
Anne retired this week after an astonishing 44 years’ service at Man Met and takes away fond memories of working at All Saints library which she says is “a great place to work”.
A typical working day for Anne involves “meeting and greeting staff and students, assisting students in any way I can and looking after the safety and security of students.”
Anne is a big animal lover, with six cats of her own, and is a huge fan of Paul O’Grady. One of her favourite places to visit is the Donkey Sanctuary in Gorton.
A little known fact about Anne is that several years ago she challenged the rules on Family Credit and won her case.
“This led to a change in the rules which benefited thousands of people,” she said.
Anne is very much a family person and says her ideal weekend is “spending the time with my grandchildren (they love Nana’s mystery tours!), going to car boot sales, sometimes a show or relaxing generally.”
Asked which items Anne would take on a desert island and why, she replied: “Music, music, music and my seven cats so I have someone to cuddle at night.”
