World Homeless Day: Manchester pledges to work ‘tirelessly’ to eradicate rough sleeping

Manchester marked World Homeless Day by pledging to ‘work tirelessly’ to end the scourge off living rough on the streets.

The day brought to light the pitiable living condition of so many people who share  living space in the city.

Providing shelter for the people entails some form of financial commitment for the beneficiaries except for cases where they can apply for space in shelter homes so on. Shelter homes have become seriously over populated due to the influx of immigrants into the UK as well as the high rise in population figures all over the world.

The  council says it is working with organisations to ease of the pressure of homelessness causes and address its causes.

Councillor Joanna Midgley, deputy leader of the city council, said: “We are working tirelessly to address the issues that lead to homelessness through our prevention work, finding alternatives to temporary accommodation, increasing the supply of suitable temporary accommodation and affordable homes across the city as well as reducing the number of people sleeping rough.

“Against a backdrop of more than a decade of austerity, welfare changes, a pandemic and a cost of living crisis, the task is hard. But together with our partners we are determined to improve outcomes for people at risk of, or experiencing homelessness.”
