Have you registered to vote in the General Election?

  • There are only 10 days left to register to vote in the upcoming General Election
  • When?

With less than 4 weeks until the snap-General Election, Mancunians are being reminded to register to vote.

The deadline to register to vote in the upcoming election is only 10 days away. Anyone who wants to have a say in the future of the country will have to register by the 22 May.

  • How?

To register, you will need to fill in basic information, including your name, address, date of birth and National Insurance number. Failure to register will see potential voters turned away at the polling booths on the big day.

Under the new rules, brought in for the last general election, mean all individuals must now be signed up to the register, not just households as it was previously.

If you are unsure whether you are registered, you need to contact your local electoral registration officer. You can find their details by typing your postcode.

Voter turnout has slowly been declining in General Elections, with the number expected to drop even more this year.

To register to vote, head to the official website.

  • Students

Students can NOT vote twice, contrary to popular belief.

While Students can register to vote in two constituents, both in their 'home' constituency and in the term-time constituency, it is an offence to vote in both constituencies at the same time, and can even lead to a £5,000 fine!
