Another Haaland Hattrick puts Manchester City past Burnley in 6-0 FA Cup thrashing.
- Haaland scores his 6th hattrick of the season against Championship leaders Burnley.
- Manchester City advance to semi-finals of FA Cup.
Manchester City lined up with only four players staying in the squad from Wednesdays game against RB Leipzig: Ortega, Walker, Dias, Laporte, Lewis, Rodri, De Bruyne, Mahrez, Foden, Alvarez, Haaland.
Manchester City welcomed back legend Vincent Kompany to his old club as manager of Burnley for this tie with Kompany having nothing but praise for the City squad in pre match interviews.
Coming into this game City are following a 7-0 trouncing of Leipzig in the midweek whilst Burnley are coming off of a 3-1 victory over Hull City in the Championship.
Manchester City came into this game heavy favourites and straight after kick-off you could tell that. The possession-based football City are known for was prominently shown during this tie against a lower league side.
However, Man City didn’t start straight away with firepower as it took them a while to start up attacks but in the 32nd minute of the game, the usual suspect Erling Haaland scores a goal from the edge of the 18-yard box past Peacock-Farrell in the Burnley goal. 1-0.
A feature of Haaland this season is when he scores one, he keeps going, and this time was no different. Only 3 minutes later, he scores a goal after a perfectly placed cross from Phil Foden reached his foot and allowed him to slot it to the bottom left of the net in the 35th minute. 2-0.
The action calmed down until half time with parts of both teams shining but no goals or noticeable attempts.
Both teams come out for the second half with Burnley making two changes with City making no changes.
City looking to extend their lead, and Burnley looking to return to their dominant performance their fans are used to seeing in the championship this season.
It took 15 minutes for Erling Haaland to get his hattrick because on the 59th minute of the game, after Foden takes a great shot from the left wing and pings off of the post and lands in front of Haaland for an easy tap in for his 6th hattrick of the season for the Norwegian striker. 3-0.
Once again, it took 3 minutes for City to score another this time coming from World Cup winner, Julian Alvarez with a shot from inside the 18 yard box from a De Bruyne pass. 4-0.
Manchester City then make 4 substitutions with one of them being Erling Haaland being replaced by youth player Cole Palmer.
That particular substitution turned out to be a good decision from Pep Guardiola as in the 68th minute of the game Palmer scores a rebound from the goalkeeper to make the game 5-0.
5 minutes after that, Julian Alvarez gets his brace of the game after a through ball from De Bruyne sets him two on one with the keeper and one defender where he shook the defender off and shot to the roof of the net to make it 6-0 to the blues.
The search for Alvarez’s first hattrick in the city blue didn’t come to fruition unfortunately as the game ended 6-0 to the home side sending them through to the semi-final of the FA Cup after a dominant performance from the Premier League Champions.
Erling Haaland receives Man of the Match for his hattrick during his first start in the FA Cup.
Manchester City next face Liverpool in the Premier league at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday 1st of April.
