Consultation goes live on shaping the future of Deansgate after £14m funding secured

Manchester City Council launched a consultation yesterday (27 February) into the popular and thriving area of Deansgate.

Submissions are open for people to take part in a survey which will allow the council to see how the Deansgate is currently used by the public and what they would like to see out of £14m transformation funding.

The public have the opportunity to answer questions such as how they travel to Deansgate, which parts of Deansgate they use (coloured and numbered 1 to 4 in the image below) and which changes would be most important to them.

Funding has been provided by the city regional sustainable transport settlement. This means a huge area of focus is transport and growth in sustainable travel such as walking, cycling and public transport.

Currently all three free buses make their way through this street to varying degrees and the Transport for Greater Manchester site outlines the routes for each. This means work is already underway in making the street safer while improving air quality with less congestion and how the council can support regeneration.

Designing a new future

The council is also appointing a design team “whose goal will be to plan out the transformation of Deansgate from a traffic dominated environment to one that puts those using sustainable transport modes first”. 

Consultation will run until 26 March where people can have their say through the survey or drop into an engagement session taking place on 21 March between 1pm to 7pm
