Moazzam Begg, a former detainee of Guantanamo Bay, was speaking at an event with Stand Up to Racism at the Mechanics Institute last night, Thursday 2 March.
Moazzam spoke about his experiences of Islamophobia and how he overcame them.
The anti-racist activist uses his platform to raise awareness of persons imprisoned as part of the war on terror through work with CAGE, an organisation which looks to empower communities impacted by it.
Moazzam's work takes him to anti-racism events across the country.
