What’s happening in the city as Manchester celebrates Eid this week?
- Eid Al-Fitr is the celebration of the conclusion of Ramadan in the Muslim calendar
- Plenty of celebrations to be held in Rusholme, Old Trafford and Platt Fields Park
- Police appeal for respect during the festival
Eid Al-Fitr will be celebrated today and tomorrow to mark the end of Ramadan in the Muslim calendar.
The festival is often celebrated with a feast that signals the conclusion of the month of daily fasting.

Muslims in Manchester will have attended morning prayers at one of the 66 mosques in the city and many will have made their way to Platt Fields Park for a free two-day event.
Eid in the Park contains a fun-fair, a barbecue and plenty of other food, drink and family-friendly entertainment.
Rusholme, which is famed for its curry mile, houses a significant community of Muslims and the district attracts many revellers into the city for the festivities.
The GMP advise that travelling through this area will be difficult over the next two days due to the increased volume of traffic.
Superintendent Dave Pester for the City of Manchester division, said: “I would like to take this opportunity to wish all of our Muslim community Eid Mubarak.
“I would also appeal to those visiting the area to enjoy the festivities in the most peaceful and responsible way.”
Manchester Eid Festival then takes place next weekend. This event will happen at Old Trafford stadium and will include more of what’s on offer in Platt Fields Park today, plus tours of the football stadium. Last year 15,000 people attended the Manchester Eid Festival and it is expected more will attend this year.
