West Ham force the title race down to the last day with 2-2 draw against Manchester City.

  • Missed Mahrez Penalty in the 86th minute kept City at a draw.

  • West Ham’s Bowen scored a brace against the Champions.

Manchester City lined up without Foden or Sterling choosing Grealish and Mahrez over them. They are also still missing three defenders due to injury, so club captain Fernandinho stepped into the centre back role. In form Kevin De Bruyne starts after 4 goal masterclass against Wolves earlier in the week.

West Ham lined up with Soucek returning to the team after missing games due to injury. Benrahma is missing after his brace last game coming off injured.

The game started shaky for the blues with Jarrod Bowen already causing trouble for the aging centre half Fernandinho. Then 24 minutes into the game, he got through onto goal and ghosted past Ederson to slot it away and give the hammers the advantage early on into the game. He then picks up a booking for a late challenge onto Fernandinho in the 32nd minute.

Just as City looked like they were regaining control of the game, on the stroke of half time, Bowen got into another perfect position and placed the shot right into the bottom right corner of the Manchester City goal. Scoring his second of the game with Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola looking stressed after the 2-goal disadvantage just before half time.

Half time ended and the teams came back out for the second half with the City players looking fired up ready for the second half after a presumed massive team talk from the boss in the changing rooms.

It seemed that the team talk worked a treat for the team as in the 49th minute, the £100 million winger, Grealish, smashes the ball into the top right corner with a half volley from the edge of the box. City’s hopes look up after the goal giving them only one goal to score to get right back into the game.

Laporte making space down on the left wing gets fouled and wins city a freekick for Mahrez to step over to take a cross into the box where the players were waiting. And with the West Ham defence anxious to get the ball away Coufal makes a grave mistake and heads the ball into his own net beating his keeper. The game looks open to either of the team up to this point.

At the most crucial point in the match, Dawson clips Jesus inside the box for VAR to intervene and gift Manchester City the chance to win the game with only 3 minutes to go.

Mahrez steps up to the spot to give City the lead but it is SAVED by Fabianski who guessed correctly and blocked the ball at full stretch.

That ended the game only minutes later with Manchester City dropping crucial points in the title race really leaving the deciding game right down to the straw against Aston Villa at home where they have to win the game to win the title.
