Tributes paid to MMU student, Ed Cooper, following tragic death

A tribute page, set up to honour the memory of Ed, has already been joined by 700 well-wishers and grievers.

Ed Cooper, an 18-year-old in his first year at Manchester Metropolitan University student, was found dead at Oxford Court university halls on Wednesday 28th September.

Emergency services received a phone call at 9:42pm to a report of an incident on Stretford Road, Hulme. The North West Ambulance service arrived at the scene shortly after the call was placed but unfortunately the teenage male was pronounced dead at the scene.

Students and friends from MMU who had only briefly known Ed, spoke of the influence he had had on their first experience of life at MMU

Mia Thompson left a heartfelt message: “Thank you Eddie for everything you have done for me over the past week. You have let me sleep on your sofa when I was left homeless, you defended us all when guys started hitting on us in the club. I will never forget the impact you have made, and the joy you brought me.”

Emily Jane Walker added: “I only knew [Ed] for three months, but even so you were very special to me and everyone who knew me knew that.”

Lauren Dwyer said: “So many memories in such a short time. There are no words to how much you will be missed!”

A spokesman for Manchester Metropolitan University said: “It is with great sadness that we can confirm the sudden death of a student in university halls on September 28. Our thoughts are with family and friends at this difficult time. Student Support Officers are currently providing support and assistance to affected students.”

Greater Manchester Police were also dispatched to the scene and have said that they are not treating the death as suspicious.

A police spokesman said: “Shortly before 10pm on Wednesday 28 September, police were called by the ambulance service to a property on Stretford Road, Hulme, to reports of a sudden death.
