Steps Reunion tour coming to Manchester

  • Following their shock split in 2001, Steps left millions of fans’ heartbroken across the UK

  • Now, more than fifteen years later, they’ve announced a UK tour with special guests the Venga Boys towards the end of the year

Steps’ appearance on Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway aided in hyping fans up for their 20th anniversary tour. Consequently, tickets for the first fifteen dates sold out, leading the promoters to cash in even more and add a further five dates, in Belfast, Manchester, Newcastle, Liverpool and Glasgow.

With hits like ‘Boom Boom Boom’, ‘We're Going to Ibiza’ and ‘We Like to Party’, Dutch Eurodance group, Venga Boys, are the perfect support act to complete the ultimate cheese tour.

Prior to their split, Steps released three studio albums all of which broke the top 5 in the UK charts at their time of release. Their comeback single, Scared of the Dark, was released on the 10th Match after their confirmation of their reunion at G-A-Y in London.

After Scared of the Dark debuted at number 1 in the UK iTunes store, Steps have been praised for keeping their original sound just with an added modern feel.

Steps was formed in 1997 when Claire Richards, Faye Tozer, Lisa Scott-Lee, Ian “H” Watkins and Lee Latchford-Evans all auditioned to their now manager, Tim Bryne. Since then they have seen monumental chart success with their music even reaching number one in Australia.

Most famed for their overly catchy, cheesy pop songs such as ‘Tragedy’, ‘5 6 7 8’ and ‘Better the Devil You Know’, Steps have a loyal following and managed to sell out their first reunion tour attempt in 2012. They followed this with a Christmas themed theatre tour, their first appearance in theatres since 1999.

Caitlin Nicholas went and saw Steps on their 2012 tour, she said: “I love steps because they remind me of my childhood. When I was little I would always be singing and dancing to them, I remember spending hours learning the dance to 5,6,7,8 with my sister. Not only do they remind me of happy times with my family, I just genuinely love old cheesy pop music. I can't wait to hear their new album and their new sound, I don't think it will be anything like their old albums so I'm excited to hear something different. I can't wait to see them on tour again, I saw them at their 2012 reunion and it was so much fun singing to all their old songs but this time they’ll have new ones which I'm excited about. I just hope they still sing their old ones too.”

Tickets for the added dates went on sale 9am 16 March.
