Varsity rugby match between MMU and Uni of Manchester to take place this Friday

Manchester Metropolitan University's Men and Women Rugby Union teams will face off against their Univeristy of Manchester counterparts at the AJ Bell Stadium this Friday evening, home of the Sale Sharks.

The hotly anticipated evening will begin with the Women's side kicking off at 5:30pm, with the Men's game starting at 7:45pm.

Men's Rugby Union scholar Connor Wilkinson expects the game to be one of the biggest events of the year with a crowd topping 1,000 due to be there at the AJ Bell to hopefully watch MMU end the losing streak against Uni of Manchester.

Ticket sales from MMU have reached 500 but many more are expected to sell before Friday evening. Tickets will continue to be available from the Union MMU on Higher Cambridge Street everyday this week. Tickets are available to buy for £5 via MMU Sport at the Union with also limited availability on the door.

Transport to the AJ Bell stadium is available from the Union at regular intervals on Friday evening, with the first bus expected to leave 4:30pm.

Dafydd Rees, vice captain of Men's Rugby Union, is expecting a win for Manchester Metropolitan.

"It'll be an extremely close game but I think we can pull through and come out with the win this year," he told us.

The event is the first of its kind this academic year and is a great opportunity for people to come down and support MMU against an age old rival.
