MMU seconds see off Uclan despite some sloppy errors in an evenly-contested match

  • Men’s Northern Tier 3 match saw MMU score four second-half tries
  • Man Met use first half to gain territory and stronghold on the game in 31-8 win

MMU’s 2nds ran out comfortable winners against the University of Central Lancashire in the Men’s Northern Tier 3 on Wednesday afternoon.

MMU scored four second-half tries to give them a 31-8 win against opposition that at the start of the game looked as though they would pose much more of a threat.

The first half was an evenly-contested affair but was littered with handling errors from MMU and it was Uclan who took the lead with a penalty midway through the first half. MMU responded with a try to edge ahead 5-3, with the conversion missed.

There was no further score in the first half but MMU will surely have felt they could have made better use of some good territory gained and that they left some points out on the field.

MMU were far more clinical in the second half, scoring three unanswered tries, two of which were converted to bring the score to 24-3.

There was some good work from the MMU forwards, securing a few good turnovers including one from a Uclan scrum 5 metres out from their own try line.

Uclan did finally get themselves back on the scoreboard, edging over from close range. The try was unconverted to bring the score to 24-8.

MMU had the last laugh, however, scoring a converted try to down the right wing, where they had enjoyed quite a bit of success in the second half. The fifth and final try added some gloss to the score line and ensured the game finished a lot more comfortably than the first half might have suggested.
