BUCS Roundup – 2/11/16

Another thrilling week of BUCS fixtures took place this week for Manchester Metropolitan University sports teams.

To start off the roundup this week is the sensational victory by Men’s Lacrosse. They travelled to face the University of Chester this week with MMU running away easy winners.

The match eventually finished 35-1 as Lacrosse edge three points clear at the top of Northern 2A.

As the fixtures roll on, MMU Sport spotlight team Men's Waterpolo 1s continue to command the Premier North league.

They faced off against league rivals Durham at the Manchester Aquatics Centre. Durham went into the game on the back of a 21 game winning streak in the league. MMU ended that streak.

The match finished 13-12 to MMU who have now extended their lead in Premier North to four points over second place Sheffield Hallam.

There was success on show for Men’s Badminton this week. The 1s triumphed 5-3 over Liverpool 2s and moves them into 3rd place in Northern 2A with a game in hand. The 2s beat cross-campus rivals MMU Cheshire 7-1.

Women’s Football 1s won their third game in a row as they entertained Edge Hill at Platt Lane. I was down watching the close affair as MMU proved too strong for Edge Hill as they won 4-2 against the visitors.

The women now must prepare for a trip up north as they face Newcastle 1s in the cup next week.

Showing their strength in depth today were another of MMU Sport’s spotlight teams as Men’s Basketball fielded 3 winning teams.

Both the 1s and 2s were on the road today with the 1s beating UCLan 85-54 and the 2s beating Liverpool 2s 56-38. The first team are now 4-0 for the season and continue to sit comfortably at the top of Northern 1A.

The 4s recorded their first win of the season at home to Chester, with the game ending 52-40.

Women’s Rugby had their first game of the season this week against Bangor. The women stamped their authority in the Northern 2A league with an empathic 77-12 win.

It has been a dream start to the league for Men’s Rugby Union 3s as they record their third league win in a row.

In an away day trip to face Lancaster 3s, Rugby Union 2s triumphed 69-3 in a game that was ended ten minutes early.
