Police are searching for abseiling thieves after £40k worth of jewellery stolen

  • Burglars stole at least £40k worth of jewellery on Tuesday night
  • Thieves broke in through ceiling of Manchester Fort
  • They then abseilied into H Samuel and smashed the cases to take the jewellery

Police are searching for a group of abseiling jewellery thieves who broke into an H Samuel on Tuesday night.

Police were called to reports of a burglary at 2.40am at the H Samuel store at Manchester Fort in Cheetham Hill.

They discovered the burglars had broken in through the ceiling of the shopping centre and abseiled about 40ft before smashing the jewellery cases.

The police are appealing for information as such a break-in requires specialist equpiment and knowledge.

DC Atkinson from GMP’s City of Manchester Team said: “This was a well-planned burglary, the offenders knew exactly what they were doing.

“We have launched an investigation and we encourage anyone with information to come forward, these offenders were highly skilled, someone must know something about their plans.”

Early estimates suggest between £40k-80k worth of jewellery has been stolen.
