Sending in the troops: Manchester noodle bar delivers a WW2 tank full of food to self-isolating students

  • Manchester's Chopstix noodle bar delivers noodle boxes to isolating students in WW2 tank
  • Students delight at Chopstix 'troops' noodle care packages
  • Company plans to contine feeding isolating students with 'noodle aid' campaign

Isolating students were shocked and delighted as whole tank filled with noodles rolled up to their halls of residence on Monday Morning.

Chopstix Noodle Bar in Manchester decided to send in the ‘Chopstix troops’ to feed the masses packing a World War II tank with noodle boxes and handing them out to isolating Manchester Metropolitan students at the Cambridge and Birley halls of residence as part of their Noodle Aid campaign.

Students at MMU’s Cambridge and Birley Halls of residence were went into lockdown at the start of October after a number of students tested positive for Covid-19.

This made it difficult for students to get the food they needed. Any students coming into contact with Covid-19 must self-isolate for 14 days.

Menashe Sadik, company founder of Chopstix Noodle Bar, said: “we really felt for the students who suddenly found themselves locked in their rooms, unable to go out to see family or friends. And so, we wanted to do something to help lift their spirits and show that Chopstix cares about them.

“We wanted to let the students know that the Chopstix troops stand by them during this difficult time.”

Mr Sadik said he and his ‘troops’ intend to keep up their ‘noodle aid’ campaign as more students are told to self-isolate.

“We gave out hundreds of meals and the feedback that we got was tremendous. We will soon be reaching out to other student campuses under lockdown.

“Students make up a large part of our customer base, as well as our own staff – the Chopstix family. We wanted to bring them a bit of comfort food and let them know that we are thinking of them.”
