Airport Chaos

MMU lecturer caught up in Manchester Airport Chaos

  • Manchester Airport's T3 terminal was evacuated this morning
  • The evacuation has been described as "calm and leisurely"

Hundreds of passengers were evacuated from Manchester Airport this morning.

An emergency evacuation was called after a suspect package was found in Terminal 3, with a bomb squad from Manchester’s GMP being called to assist in the operation.

MMU Lecturer, Liz Hannaford, caught up in the evacuation, spoke to The NQ about the situation for the passengers.

Describing the evacuation as ‘calm,’ Liz explained: “I was ordering a coffee after arriving just before 10 when the evacuation was called.

“It was very calm and relaxed, the barista even offered to finish making my coffee!

“Even though hundreds and hundreds of people were being evacuated, the atmosphere remained relaxed.”

The police seemed to have played a role in keeping the situation calm. Liz added: “Police have been great at keeping people informed.

“There have been quite a few rumours flying around, but all have been denied by the police.

“The general reaction so far has been calm and good natured. No one has been irate with airport staff; people are just sat on their phones waiting around, there’s no sense of anger at the airport.”
