Man arrested in murder investigation after woman’s body discovered in Ancoats flat

  • Police advising people to stay away from Swan Street area
  • Man seen jumping from window of flat in Shush Apratments
  • Man, 37, held in police custody

Police have launched an investigation after a woman was found dead in a flat in Ancoats.

Shortly after 7.40am this morning, police were called to reports that a man had jumped from a second storey flat window on Swan Street. 

When police forced entry to the flat in Shush Apartments, they found the body of a woman.

A 37-year-old man was arrested nearby on suspicion of murder and remains in custody for questioning. 

There are several road closures in place including Swan Street and people are being advised to avoid the area.

Residents living in the flats have been allowed back in to collect belongings. 

Superintendent Chris Hill said: “We are currently working to establish the exact circumstances surrounding what has happened this morning and the woman’s death. 

“Her death is currently being treated as suspicious and we have a team of officers working at the scene.  

“We are in the very early stages of our investigation. However, I would urge anyone with any information to please get in touch.”
