Horwich postman, Andrew Davies, in his new blue Mohican

Horwich postman raises more than £1,500 for the NHS by delivering post in fancy dress each day

  • A postman in Horwich near Bolton has been entertaining the local residents on his daily rounds with his fancy dress costumes.
  • Andrew Davies has now raised over £1500 for the NHS by creating his ‘Nutty Hair Style.
  • He admits he probably won't match Captain Tom but every bit helps.

Andrew Davies has become a familiar sight around Horwich. The local postman has been wearing fancy dress during his shifts to cheer up the local residents up during isolation.

He's now gone one step further and created a NHS inspired ‘Nutty Hair Style’ to help continue to raise money for the Bolton NHS Charitable fund.

Mr Davies has been doing his daily rounds dressed as anything from a viking to a rockstar. He says he originally was inspired by a postman called Jon who works in Sunderland who was delivering in fancy dress to cheer people up during lockdown.

Mr Davies has now decided to go the extra mile and set up a fundraising page on Just Giving to raise money during lockdown with an NHS inspired look.

Mr Davies said he began thinking about raising money and, as he was running out of costumes, he decided to do something with his hair. “Playing on the initials NHS, I thought of Nutty Hair Style and ended up with the idea of a Mohican.”

He went on to say: “Seeing everything being lit up blue in support of the NHS gave me the idea to dye it. And then I thought - let’s go the whole hog and do the goatee too.”

Mr Davies has now raised over £1500 for the Bolton NHS Charitable Fund, although this is not the first time he has raised money for local charities. He took part in a Blues Brothers and The Commitments tribute act doing charity shows over the years at Horwich RMI.

He said “I’ve also done the Bubble Rush at Queens Park for the last 4-5 years with my little lad and other members of my family. It raises money for Bolton Hospice. It’s great fun - a 5km run where you go through 5 different coloured bubble stations”.

The Just Giving page for the NHS fundraiser admits: “Don’t think I’ll get as much as Captain Tom but every bit helps, so please donate and help out our heroes.”
