  • Festival created to bring awareness to saving the environment

Envirolution is set this year to become Manchester’s first official plastic-free festival

Following Andy Burnham’s plastic-free Manchester campaign, the festival crew worked to ensure all single-use plastics will be eliminated from the festival.

The festival is in its tenth year now, and has been working with local community leaders to provide a platform for everything green happening in Manchester.

Envirolution festival is regularly billed as one of the best free events in Manchester, and this year will see two stages of live music with local artists coming to the fore to show off their latest exciting pieces.

Corin Bell, lead for the Plastic-Free Greater Manchester campaign, said: “The blueprint we have set here shows it is completely possible to run events without needing to create huge amounts of plastic waste, and we hope this trend can inspire everyone else to make positive changes.”

There is a large roster of acts taking part in the festival, including NQ editor Matt Hartless’s band, Matt Hartless & the Maverick 7, as well as popular Manchester bands, Lazslo Baby, Good King Steady and Captain Stingray’s Groove Machine.

Envirolution runs from 1pm until 7pm and as well as live music, you can expect speakers talking about the Envirolution campaign and environmentalism such as Manchester Gorton MP Afzal Khan.

There are also a number of workshops and stalls set up for fesitvalgoers to mooch around including a healing garden, a community project teaching people how to fix their bikes and plenty of stalls for environmentally-friendly businesses to sell their wares.
