Campaign launched to ensure schools are completely aware of allergies and staff are trained to use an anaphylaxis device

Around 7% of children have food allergies in the UK, our Campaign Always Allergy Aware is to ensure schools around the UK are fully aware of allergies and the precautions that need to be made in the likely event of a pupil having a severe allergic reaction. The aim is for the Government to provide high-quality training to staff and to ensure they are sufficiently trained to operate an Anaphylaxis device in which they should ensure enough devices are there to use.
The of lack training and allergy procedures resulted in the death of a nine-year-old boy following an allergic reaction, Mohammed Ismaeel Ashraf collapsed after eating a lunch of fish fingers and chips and died from an anaphylactic reaction. This story highlighted how important it is for schools to take more precautions and the need to tighten its procedures in these extremely unfortunate events.
In addition to staff receiving the relevant training our campaign will also pledge for compulsory allergy lessons to children, an article online stated that “schools are not aware of the need to offer free allergy lessons to children”. Ensuring all staff are aware of the protocols and children are aware of their fellow classmates serve allergies to certain foods is crucial.
#AlwaysAllergyAware aims are to make it compulsory for teaching staff and catering staff to receive full training on allergies, operating an Anaphylaxis device and provide allergy awareness classes to all children.
