Bury community remembers those killed in terror attacks across the world

  • People of Bury come together to pay their respects to victims of terrorist attacks
  • Memorial tree is planted and designed with messages to show support and positivity

School children have attended a tree planting ceremony to show their support for victims of terror.

The tree had been decorated with messages of hope following an event in conjunction with Collabor8Bury earlier this year.

Also present were the police and members of Bury Council, who donated the tree.

Collabor8Bury is an annual event held in celebration of Bury’s diverse community aimed at bringing people together to create an opportunity to develop their own cultural awareness and understanding, enabling communities to breakdown stereotypes,  provide a platform to tackle hate crime.

A plaque with a message of support to all those affected was installed next to the tree.

Superintendent Sue Downey of GMP Bury said: “We hope members of the community and further afield will leave their messages of hope for all those that have been injured and affected by these incidents across the world.”

Councillor Sharon Briggs, cabinet member for communities, added: “Across the world, many innocent people have had their lives taken by acts of terror. This is a symbolic way of remembering them and helping to spread the message of peace.”
