Player Ratings: Swansea 1: 3 Manchester United

  • Manchester United back to winning ways after securing¬†comfortable victory against Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium

Ibrahimovic had previously gone six games without scoring a goal in all competitions but broke his goal drought after scoring two goals in the first half.

This was after Paul Pogba opened the scoring with a sweetly struck half volley into the top corner from 25 yards out.

Mourinho’s men dominated proceedings and effortless passed the ball around a lethargic Swansea side that offered very little.

Swansea improved in the second half and managed to grab themselves a barely deserved consolation goal after Van Der Horn headed home from a pinpoint Sigurosson free-kick.

The result sees Man Utd move up to 6th, while Swansea are off the foot of the table on goal difference.

Swansea

L. Fabianski (5) – Could have done more to stop United’s second goal but was not helped by Swansea’s feeble backline.

A. Rangel (4) – Was continuously caught out of position at full back – he allowed Rooney too much space and his weak tackle allowed Ibrahimovic to score his second goal.

M. Van Der Horn (6) – Was outmuscled throughout by Ibrahimovic and allowed the Swede time and space on the ball. However he managed to score a consolation goal for his side.

A. Mawson (5) – Struggled against United’s big swede and looked out of his depth.

S. Kingsley (5) - Continuously allowed Mata to cut inside onto his favoured left foot and his distribution going forward was wayward.

Ki Sueng Yueng (5) – Allowed Ibrahimovic to pass him by too easily for United’s second goal and didn’t get the chance to show his passing range.

L. Britton (5) – He was a calming presence in Swansea’s midfield but that often allowed Man Utd the opportunity to press.

W. Routledge (4) – An out of character performance from Routledge – he did not threaten Darmian at left back and he did not work hard defensively.

G. Sigurosson (6) – Looked lost on the left hand side, however he improved after he was switched to a central position in the second half and it was from his free kick that assisted Van Der Horn.

F. Llorente (4) – Did not offer anything – although he did not get any service whatsoever, when the Spaniard received the ball his use of it was poor.  Was taken off at half-time

B. Baston (5) – Barely touched the ball throughout the contest but his hold up play improved after the break.

Subs

J. Montero (7) – Came on at half time and injected his side with pace and energy – caused Young a few problems on the flank.

M. Barrow (6) – He had a chance to score but fluffed his lines. Could not get past Darmian.

L. Fer (6) – Was not able to stamp his authority on the game.

Manchester Utd

D. De Gea (7) – Did not have anything to do for the majority of the game. Could do nothing about Swansea’s goal.

A. Young (7) - Played as a makeshift right back and put in a good performance. He did not allow Sigurosson to cut inside and was not overawed by Montero.

P. Jones (7) – A great game to make your comeback from injury. He was barely troubled by Swansea’s attackers but will be disappointed that he was beaten in the air by Van Der horn for the goal.

M. Rojo (6) – Like Jones, Rojo was not tested by Swansea’s forwards, however he did not look comfortable despite being given time and space in possession.

M. Darmian (8) – Ventured forward with regularity on the left, linking up very well with Rooney and dealt with the threat from Swansea’s right with relative ease.

M. Carrick (8) – Gives Man United balance when he plays, he was composed and always looking forward with his passes allowing attacking players more license to create.

M. Fellaini (7) – With Carrick sitting back Fellaini was allowed to go forward, however he did not utilise his physical attributes but he never had to.

P. Pogba (9) – Scored a brilliant goal to open the scoring. Swansea could never get close to the Frenchman who is beginning to find his feet for the Red Devils.

Juan Mata (8) – Was deployed on the right but the Spaniard seemed to have a free role to roam wherever he wanted to in the final third. He did extremely well in tight areas and linked up well with his teammates.

W. Rooney (8) – His best performance by far this season. He looked like the Wayne Rooney we have known throughout the years but is still a bit short of the high standards he has set before. A good showing.

Z. Ibrahimovic (9) – Back to scoring ways after an uncharacteristic goal-drought. He looked like the Ibrahimovic we saw at the start of the season, he bullied and dominated the Swansea defence throughout and capped his performance off with two good goals.  Will be a big miss against Arsenal in a fortnight's time.

Subs

J. Lingard (N/A) – Did not have enough time to make a significant impact.

M. Schneiderlin (N/A) – Made a cameo appearance.

T. Fosu  Mensah (N/A) – Made a brief appearance.
