Spooky pooch Halloween costume show in Spinningfields

  • Annual Halloween dog costume contest returns to Manchester
  • Dogs and owners win prizes on stage and raise money for charity

Dogs and owners presented their best halloween costumes during the annual Spooky Pooch Show hosted for the first time in Spinningfields this year.

Participants in the competition won prices live on stage for the most original costume, the spookiest pooch, best dog and owner costume combo and most impressive dog trick or treat.

Winner for the most original costume was Amy with her Yorkshire Terrier, who participated in the competition for the first time. She won a 50 bar tab for The Oast House.

“Everyone put a lot of effort in the costumes and it is great that the money goes to a charity”, she said.

The £5 dog registration fee this year went to dogs4rescue, an independent dog rescue centre in Manchester.

Other participants in the contest were Kate, Beverly and Nicole dressed as witches with their dog Pippen. This group participated in last year’s competition at Exchange Square, but preferred this year’s location because of the less hectic atmosphere.

Ed, Ian, and their dog Ted were amazed by the location too. It is a really animal friendly place and as one of them said: “The dogs got aqua before humans got vino”.

Both enjoyed the whole event but would have loved to have seen more variety and some different colour schemes in the costumes.
