Police appeal for witnesses following attack in Hulme by armed men

  • Gun was held against victim's mouth
  • Police are treating the attack as a 'targeted assault'
  • Anyone with information should call crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 1111

Police are hunting an armed duo who held a man at gunpoint in Hulme.

The victim - a man in his 40s - was approached by two men after getting out of his car on Northdown Avenue shortly after 9.30pm last Wednesday (Jan 31).

They threatened him and shoved a gun against his mouth before fleeing the scene.

Police are treating the incident as a ‘targeted assault’. One of the attackers is described as 6ft tall, black and in his 20s. He was wearing a black coat, black cap and a tracksuit with white stripes. The second man was also described as black and wearing a black coat.

Det. Insp. Mark Davis of GMP’s City of Manchester team, said: “We are treating this as a targeted attack and don’t believe there to be a threat to the wider community. That being said, it is completely unacceptable that a man has been threatened in such an aggressive way. While he wasn’t injured he has obviously been left extremely shaken after being held at gunpoint."

He appealed to the public to contact the police with any information and said: "If you saw anyone acting suspiciously in the area around the time of the attack, or have any information, I would urge you to get in touch with us.”
