Manchester Day honour the arena attack

  • The day honouring Manchester will be dedicated to those who lost their lives last Monday
  • The 8th instalment of the festival is also celebrating everything that has made Manchester the great city it is today
  • Volunteers are still needed for the festival

This years Manchester Day will honour the memory of the 22 victims of last Monday’s terror attack on the city. The festival is to pay tribute to those who lost their lives in the arena, their families, and those who were injured, when it returns on Sunday 18 June.

The special tribute will be added to the front of the parade which is also honouring the heroic efforts of the emergency services who worked tirelessly in the hours and days after the attack.

Lord Mayor of Manchester,  Eddy Newman, and Greater Manchester mayor, Andy Burnham, will join Pat Karney, the chair of Manchester Day, marching in the parade ahead of the incredible artworks that make Manchester Day the spectacle of the summer, with this year’s theme: Abracadabra.

Commenting on the day, Pat Karney said: “Manchester Day will show the city’s resilience and collective spirt where people come together to celebrate a shared love for our city.

The Mayor of Greater Manchester added: “It’s right and fitting that Manchester Day is devoted to those who lost their lives and those that continue to live with the aftermath of last week’s attack.

“It will also give us all an opportunity to pay tribute to our heroic public servants and celebrate the incredible Manchester spirit that has sustained us all through these dark days.”

Manchester Day, now in its 8th year, is a celebration that perfectly represent’s the pride that people have for the city’s spirit, strength, strength and diversity.
