Man Met offers counselling after Manchester terror attack

  • MMU has offered counselling to all staff and students affected by Monday's tragic events
  • 22 innocents died, with up to 63 others being seriously hospitalised

MMU is offering counselling to all staff and students affected by the news of the Manchester Arena bombing.

A tweet sent out on Tuesday morning from Man Met’s official Twitter account directed staff and students to a dedicated health and wellbeing site.

With the news of the situation breaking in a tense time for students, and with many sitting exams this week an email was sent to students consoling those affected and informing them that academic exams scheduled were going ahead as planned but that any students affected by the incident could postpone.

With Manchester being on full alert over the past two days, travelling to university for exams may have been difficult for students.

Man Met are planning to extend their exceptional factors system to help those affected by the tragedy on Monday.

The Union, Man Met’s student’s union, released a statement on Tuesday offering support for students affected and pledged to do whatever they can to help those in need.

The statement from president Lewis Bartlett reads: “We are deeply shocked and devastated following the tragic incident at Manchester Arena last night.

“Our thoughts go out to the family and friends of all those who lost loved ones as well as to everyone who was injured or affected.

“Both ourselves at The Union and the University are on standby to do whatever we can for any students, staff and those involved.

“Anyone affected by the events who needs help and support can contact the University’s counselling services on 0161 247 3493 or their counselling website.

“We’re open today for anyone who would like to access any of our services or would like a space to be, please don’t hesitate to use The Union for anything you need.

“At times like these when they intend to divide us, we need to pull together and be united, and show the world that we will only grow stronger in time of crisis.

Our greatest sympathies to go out to the families of all those who have lost their lives or have been injured in this tragic incident. Our prayers and thoughts are with you all.”
