Man in critical condition after Stockport collision

A man remains in hospital in a critical condition after a collision in Stockport.

Police received a report of a collision between a Ford transit van and a pedestrian shortly after 1.10am this morning on Stockport Road West at the junction of Morrisons supermarket.

On arrival, officers discovered a man in his 30s with serious injuries.

He was taken to hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

The van driver, a man in his 60s, was not injured.

Police Constable Paul Shore, from GMP's Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "The driver of the van has been helping us with enquiries and we are currently trying to establish exactly what has happened.

"I would appeal to anyone who may have witnessed anything to do with this collision to please contact us.

"We believe another vehicle may have overtaken the van and this driver may be a key witness. I would urge them to also contact police."
