#GOFAUX: Campaign launched to stop clothing and accessories containing real animal fur being sold in the UK

  • The Northern Quota have launched a campaign to stop clothing and accessories containing real animal fur being sold in the UK.
  • NQ reporter Sophie Hollands aims to raise awareness amongst consumers and put a stop to this barbaric industry.

Real fur is used as a ‘luxury’ material in fashion houses worldwide and innocent animals are dying so people can wear this fabric that is paraded on runways and displayed in high end clothing stores, to show ‘class and wealth.’

85% of the fur industry’s skins come from animals who were captive on fur factory farms, where they are crammed into severely crowded, filthy wire cages and are often skinned alive. The conditions that animals such as dogs, rabbits and foxes are kept in is truly disgusting and they are often skinned, burned and electrocuted for their furs to be sold on the luxury market.

Although the fur industry is a worldwide issue, with China being the worlds largest fur exporter, banning the sale of clothing and accessories containing real fur in the UK is a huge step in putting a stop to this worldwide issue and raising its awareness amongst consumers will shed light on this cruel industry.

Raising the awareness of the industry is an imperative outcome of the #GOFAUX campaign, as much of the fur is imported from China and other countries with poor regulation, it is often mislabeled as “faux.” Clearer, more in-depth research needs to go into recognising whether the fur used across fashion houses is actually faux.

The #GOFAUX campaign aims to educate consumers of the terrible conditions the animals are kept in and uncover the industry for its barbaric nature that causes animals immense distress and in some cases, causes them to die.

As I began researching into real fur, Gucci announced they were banning the use of fur in their fashion house and will go fur free from their next SS18 collection. This includes no longer using mink, coyote, raccoon dog, fox, rabbit and other species that are specially bred for their fur. This is extremely relevant to the campaign as Gucci is sold in the UK in stores and online. It is with great hope that other luxury fashion houses follow in their footsteps and they too #GOFAUX to help improve the lives of many innocent animals.
